A Counselor's Focus in Korean Culture : 'individual' and 'role'
Jang Sung-Sook

Abstract
There are differences between characteristics of North America-Europe culture and East Asia culture, and therefore people construct the basic psychological elements such as cognition, emotion, and motivation in a different way. Korea develops relativism oriented culture because of the influence of Confucianism-collectivism. The relationship between father and son among various characteristics of Koran culture has special meanings and implications to counseling. I think it is useful for a Korean counselor to teach a client about the role which is demanded to him rather than to empathize a clinet by taking care of his individual needs. That is, a counselor should play a role like a parent or a teacher for counseling effect because the korean people expect a counselor serves as an elder person(an experienced and wise man) who can coach and guide a client. Reality Dynamic Counseling based on Koran culture stresses on a role of a counselor who should have an affective-disciplinary attitude to understand and solve a problem.
